Flowliner Classic Ferrozinc Rust Converter
Ferrozinc is a high performance water thinnable rust conversion primer. It is an easily applied single pack material with excellent long term conversion and barrier properties. In many situations blast cleaning is not cost effective or practical, and though Ferrozinc is not an equivalent alternative to Shot Blasting, it does offer a far superior performance than conventional coatings applied to slightly rusted surfaces.
Ferrozinc is used after a simple wire brushing to remove surface rust. A dramatic colour change will take place from white to black; this will show you where the rust has been.
Once dried a subsequent over coating, with Flowliner Classic Etch Primer/Rust Proof Primer will reduce the extent of your corrosion problem.
Salt spray and extended durability testing has proven Ferrozinc to out-perform competitive rust conversion materials.
Flowliner Classic Etch Primer
This is an anti-corrosive high build matt dark grey etching primer that helps the bonding process to new or bare metals. Whereas most non-ferrous metal primers are sprayed, Flowliner Classic Etch Primer have the advantage of being suitable for brush application, they can be over coated with most intermediate priming/build systems and Flowliner dark grey rust proof primer.
Flowliner Rust Proof Synthetic Primer is a high build matt, easy sandable, anti-corrosion, primer system for use with all Flowliner topcoats.
Flowliner Rust Proof Synthetic Primer is available in dark grey and is an excellent basecoat over existing finishes of virtually all types after adequate preparation.
Flowliner Rust Proof Synthetic Primer combines high build and excellent sandability after a short drying period together with excellent application and scratch filling properties.
Flowliner Classic Bike Coach Enamel
Having used the best quality coaching enamels for our own restorations since the late 50's we have decided to offer the same product in a useable size for you, the classic bike restorer. Flowliner Classic Bike Coach Enamel is based on a very old fashioned manufacturing process using earth pigments. These are finely ground then mixed with oil & thinners to give a high gloss with a high depth of colour. How the gloss paints perform when flowing out before drying will depend on the quality, most modern paints have drying agents that dry far too quickly, creating brush marks because they do not allow sufficient flowing out time. The better quality paints have less pigment & more oil to enable a better finish. A heavy pigmented paint will cover well but leave a poor finish. Flowliner Classic Bike Coach Enamel is a heavy oil base and will flow out better resulting in a superior high gloss finish.
Application of FLOWLINER Coating system
Preparation
This is the most important part of coach painting. Remove any old paint or rust and always paint in a dust free environment removing any particles of dust prior to painting. Prepare your item with the products above that will enhance the final finish.
Priming
Use Flowliner dark grey rust proof primer for your first coat, using a reasonable quality brush; do not worry about any brush marks as they are inevitable because of the large amount of pigments in the primer. These brush marks can be sanded after 24 hours with wet & dry leaving a thick protective coating, which should be very smooth to accept the final Flowliner Classic Bike Coach Enamel gloss coat. Remember the work is in the priming and finishing, do not take any short cuts and always make sure that all parts are primed.
Glossing
Use a good quality paint brush such as a Hamilton from B&Q etc. For best results always paint in dust free conditions, with a temperature of around 15oC. Load the brush with paint then spread it over the surface in a left to right and up & down motion to achieve an even coat of paint. Gently ease the pressure after each stroke, and on the final finishing stroke pull the brush down with the weight of the brush only. Always finish in the same direction to achieve optimum flow out. If you need to recoat when dry, flat the surface with very fine wet or dry leave 24 hours to air dry then recoat as above.
Brush cleaning Use White Spirit in a suitable container, clean the brush until all the paint is removed, change the White Spirit 2-3 times & finally wash the brush with soap & water & let it dry naturally.
